Pregnancy And The Urinary Tract

2013-03-25 18:03:00 +0530

What causes vaginal discharge to increase during pregnancy?

This is due to the hormonal changes and increased blood flow. This will continue right up to delivery time. To keep yourself dry and clean, use comfortable cotton underwear, avoid tight fitting pants and perfumed soaps. In case the discharge is excessive, use a sanitary pad. Avoid tampons, as they can be unsafe.

I feel like peeing all the time. Is that normal?

This is a very common symptom of pregnancy especially in the first trimester and can happen as early as one week after conception. The uterus takes up more space now, thereby putting pressure on all the organs. Due to this, the bladder becomes irritable and tries to expel the smallest quantity of urine. Mostly, this stops in the second trimester, only to return again in the third trimester. To deal with this problem, don't try to cut back on your water intake as this will lead to dehydration, which can be harmful.
